Secure Web 2.0, Social Networks, and Real-Time Communications

The New Internet poses new threats to an organization's network.  Traditional security tools like URL filtering, firewalls, and Intrusion Prevention Systems do not offer adequate protection against the evasive applications of the Web 2.0 world.

Web 2.0 applications are designed specifically for communication.  These applications use port hopping, encryption and non-standard protocols to ensure a seamless end user experience.  Any security solution that is capable of managing and policing these Web 2.0 applications needs to factor this into its design.

At a minimum, an effective security solution must encompass a broad range of capabilities:

  • Web 2.0 and Social Networking Controls - control features and content posted to Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter, including logging and archiving; manage a range of Web 2.0 applications
  • IM Security - manage and secure all public IM against inbound threats and information leakage to ensure compliance
  • Web Filtering - monitor and control employee access to websites without impacting network performance or employee productivity
  • Malware Prevention - stop spyware, worms, and blended threats at the gateway before they can impact the business
  • Skype Management - enforce usage policies by feature and version, log content sent, and apply disclaimers
  • Peer-to-Peer Control - block inappropriate use of P2P networks that consume bandwidth and create legal exposure
