FOSTER CITY, CALIF - May 23, 2005 - FaceTime
Communications today announced Real-Time Guardian 3.0 ("RTG 3.0"),
the most advanced perimeter security solution for blocking the
spread of spyware and adware in the enterprise and securing
unauthorized IM and P2P usage, which represents one of the primary
channels for spyware distribution. RTG 3.0's unique anti-spyware
design encompasses four key components:
- Preventing Infections: Stopping users from visiting known
spyware and adware infection sites and blocking the download of
known spyware file types.
- Securing IM and P2P use: Securing the use of all major IM and
P2P networks, which represent one of the largest distribution
vectors for spyware and adware today.
- Blocking Phone Home: Interrupting spyware's "phone-home"
behavior and stopping the delivery of hijacked data and online
advertising server requests before they reach their
destination.
- Targeted Remediation: Enabling IT administrators to take a
rifle shot approach to desktop scanning and remediation based upon
known infected computers vs. requiring scanning of all desktops in
an enterprise.
In addition to its anti-spyware functionality RTG 3.0 expands
upon its strong IM and P2P blocking functionality by adding:
- Expanded IM and P2P protocol and client coverage: Expanding to
137 P2P clients variations, 18 P2P protocol groups, 25 IM client
variations and a growing list of tunneling and anonymizer
applications representing the largest supported group in the
industry.
- New Easy-to-Use User Interface: Allowing rapid set up, and
easier ongoing administration and management.
- Expanded Reporting: Delivering a multitude of customer driven
canned and configurable reports.
- New Appliance Configurations: Including the RTG100, RTG500 and
RTG1000 designed for different through-put environments which take
advantage of a new underlying Dell server architecture.
- Expanded Central Management: Enhancing IT administrator's
ability to centrally administer and configure multi-appliance
enterprise installations.
- Leading Security Certifications: Cisco Technology Developer
Program Certified and Symantec SESA Certified.
"Our customers have told us that they are losing the war against
spyware and adware and want a different approach," said Kailash
Ambwani, President and CEO of FaceTime, "Scanning all of an
enterprise's desktop computers on a daily basis is bringing many
companies to their knees. These anti-spyware cleaning solutions are
very system resource intensive, can hang a user's computer
mid-scan, and often end up disabling legitimate applications. RTG
3.0 takes an alternative approach by stopping the infection at the
perimeter, before it enters your enterprise, and then allowing for
targeted remediation. This is the more rational and effective
strategy to control the spyware epidemic." FaceTime considers
spyware and adware as part of a larger, fast-growing set of
applications called "greynets." A greynet application is an
unsanctioned application that is downloaded and installed on
end-user systems (sometimes without even the end-user's awareness -
as with spyware) and then uses evasive techniques to traverse the
network. Greynet applications often have legitimate business uses
and include instant messaging, web conferencing, SKYPE and web
mail. "FaceTime's success in securing instant messaging and P2P in
the enterprise is a valuable asset in the battle against spyware,"
said Michael Osterman, president of Osterman Research. "Instant
messaging, spyware and other greynet applications all share similar
evasive network behavior. FaceTime's expertise in securing the DMZ
uniquely positions them to understand this behavior extremely
well." As one of the largest CPA and consulting firms in the
country, Crowe Chizek and Company LLP deals with a significant
amount of sensitive client information and takes network security
very seriously. "With Real-Time Guardian, FaceTime offered us the
best solution to manage legitimate IM use and secure our network
perimeter by detecting and blocking unauthorized users of IM and
P2P networks," said Lamont Long, IT Director at Crowe Chizek and
Company LLP. "We are excited that FaceTime is expanding its
footprint in security with new spyware capabilities in Real-Time
Guardian 3.0. This new feature will help us stop spyware from
infecting our desktops saving our organization valuable time and
resources." Pricing and Availability
FaceTime Real-Time Guardian 3.0 will be generally available in
June 2005. Pricing for the RTG appliance family starts at
$5,000.
