FaceTime IMAuditor™ First in Industry to Certify Scalability for 100,000+ User Organizations

Stable Processor and Memory Utilization Results Verify FaceTime's Enterprise Scalability and Superiority of Proxy Architecture

FOSTER CITY, Calif., August 30, 2004 - Furthering its leadership as the premier provider of solutions that secure, manage, and extend instant messaging (IM) and peer-to-peer (P2P) applications, FaceTime Communications today announced that independent testing and certification center KeyLabs has completed scalability testing of FaceTime's industry-leading IM and P2P security and compliance solution, IMAuditor 5.0. KeyLab's scalability testing was completed using its Independent Verification of Performance service under intensive user and message load scenarios that replicate a production environment. "IMAuditor scaled in a stable manner with low processor and memory utilizations," said Suzanne Wagstaff, testing director at KeyLabs. "Furthermore, IMAuditor actually improved the performance of the enterprise instant messaging system we were testing against." Key Findings Included:

  1. Stable scalability with low processor and memory utilization: As simultaneous user populations increased, no upper limit of support for large populations appeared.
  2. Prescriptive architecture for the support of 40,000 simultaneous users in a 100,000 user environment with the following configuration: four IMAuditor servers, one database server, and the optional addition of a load balancer or the utilization of IMAuditor's statistical routing capabilities.
  3. Consistent scalability and performance of the enterprise IM systems when used in conjunction with IMAuditor's in-stream proxy architecture, which dramatically contrasted against common "connector" architectures that degrade enterprise IM server performance.
  4. Standard server hardware configurations: 2.7GHz CPU's, 1 GB RAM and 100Mbit Ethernet connections are adequate to obtain these levels of performance.

"IMAuditor is the most widely deployed end-to-end IM security and compliance solution in the market today," said Kailash Ambwani, president and CEO of FaceTime. "As our customer installations have grown in size, we felt it important to complete an independent test of our enterprise scalability and offer that data to our customers and prospects."
