SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 9, 2002 -- FaceTime
Communications, the leading supplier of network-independent IM
applications for business, and McAfee Security, a division of
Network Associates, Inc., today announced the integration of
advanced anti-virus scanning technology from McAfee Security into
the FaceTime Communications family of instant messaging (IM)
products. The announcement was made at the Instant Messaging Planet
2002 Conference being held here this week. The FaceTime and Network
Associates agreement provides network-independent anti-virus
protection to corporate IM users, enabling scanning of all incoming
Instant Message attachments in the enterprise. This gives customers
even more control over their IM communications, while helping
businesses manage public IM use with virus protection. "As a leader
in anti-virus technology, McAfee Security is our trusted choice for
protecting FaceTime customers from the possible threat of viruses
and malicious code," said Glen Vondrick, president and CEO of
FaceTime Communications. "This is another example of how FaceTime
helps customers reign in IM usage. The integration of McAfee's
virus scanning technology with our IM solutions provides customers
with a critical level of security to control and manage
enterprise-wide electronic communication no matter which IM network
is utilized." As the use of IM continues to experience exponential
growth in mainstream business, there is an increased need to
protect corporations from the threat of viruses across all IM
networks. Until now, widely available and downloadable IM clients
have been difficult for IT departments to manage. Issues such as
authentication, access controls and protection from viruses for IM
have become key concerns for corporate IT departments. With the
incorporation of McAfee's anti-virus technology into FaceTime's
family of IM applications, customers will now have the assurance
that their IM communication is protected from potential virus
threats. "As corporate IM usage increases, so do network security
concerns," said Todd Gebhart, vice president of service provider
and OEM sales for McAfee Security. "McAfee Security is committed to
protecting customers from Internet security threats on all
communication platforms, including IM."
